Sarah, a Kurdish Jew, born in Kurdistan/Iraq, when she was forced to leave Iraq many years ago, left the community torah scroll with dear Muslim friends in Iraq for safe keeping. She flew from Israel to Turkey, and walked across the border to bring the torah scroll back with her to Israel. When we visited her, she had just been back to Iraq the previous week with her daughter. In this video, she explains how hard it was for her to watch people succumb to such hardship. She talks while making the most DELICIOUS bread on an open fire stove. While she spoke, she would place a spoonful of honey on top of the bread, and spread it around it's surface, like butter. Once it had dried, she would flip the bread over and repeat the process on the other side. She did this over and over again, until the moment when she lifted it from the fire and served it to us, steaming hot on a plate. It was DELICIOUS!!!!
